Trends: Autumn/ Winter 2012

We’ve collaborated with some wonderful designer-makers and manufacturers this season to create our Autumn Winter 2012/13 trend books, bringing our clients the best printed, woven and upholstery fabrics, wallpapers, gift wrap and flooring.
Our bi-annual trend publications cater for brands, manufacturers and retailers who need to access future trend intelligence 18-24 months ahead of the season. Our initial Trend Panel meeting is where it all begins;  we collect data, information, opinions and viewpoints from influential industry leaders to formulate and develop four main social and cultural directions that we think will influence design and colour trends.

This season special thanks go to our contributors this season who include Linton Tweeds, Modulor, Blendworth Fabrics, Summersville, Grace Inc Design, Bute, Bart Halpen Fabrics, Osborne and Little, Louise Body, Sandberg, Moons, and Edelman Leather.

One of our key trend directions for Autumn/Winter 2011/12, was a theme called Utilitarian, the heart of which was all about the art of construction and a pared down, neutral colour palette for the home that gave a nod to industrialism. There was plenty of evidence of this trend at designjunction across wood, metal and glass, and was particularly prevalent for lighting.

Exposed components were key across lighting at designjunction. Designers exposed, mimicked and reworked the humble lightbulb making it a motif in itself. Our Utilitarian trend communicated exactly this type of celebration of practical, functional ordinary objects.

The Future’s Bright

Bright accent colours were seen across all aspects of design, from promotional material to desk accessories. Staplers and tape dispensers looked fresh in bold block colours, and one of our favourite North East exports Deadgood, showcased new seating designs in bubblegum pink and electric blue.
